He was predeceased by: his parents, George Appling and Louella Appling; and his brothers, George Appling, Jr. and James Michael Appling, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Jayne Gay Reed Appling; his sons, J. Paul Appling, Jr. (Laura) and Mark Appling (Phyllis); his grandchildren, Blake Appling, Meagen Appling Post, Dustin Appling (Bailey Sevcik), Tyler Appling (Jamie), Landon Appling and Caitlin Appling; his great grandchildren, Savannah and Sullivan Post; and his sister Nancy Kennedy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
