He was predeceased by: his mother Virgie Smith Sparks; and his wife Judy Ann Sheppard. He is survived by: his children, Larry Colbath of Odessa, Mona Scates of Bronte, Tammie Rouse (John, Sr.) of Clyde and Ronnie Colbath (Debbie) of Johnson City; his sisters, Mildred Duncan, Maudie Fenwick of Winters and Faye Anderson of Ingram; and his grandchildren, Michael Colbath, Misty Keneson (Mike), Justin Lange (Brandi), Trayson Lange, John Rouse, Jr., Janea Smith (Levi), Trendon Rouse, Nicholas Colbath and Cameron Colbath. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Hendrick Hospice of Abilene.
