He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Lawrence Shoup and Corelli Nelson Shoup; his wife Nancy Gay Long Shoup; his children, George Michael Shoup, Jr. (Jean Freeland Shoup) of Independence, Texas, David Long Shoup of Independence, Texas, Juliet Gay Baker (Kenneth Baker) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Peter Lawrence Shoup (Cheryl Kane Shoup); his grandchildren, Kelly Anderson (Jared Anderson) of College Station, Texas, Randy Shoup (Hana Studer Shoup) of Denver Colorado, Nicholas Shoup of Brenham, Texas, Eric Baker (Amanda Smith Baker) of Sydney, Australia, Jeffrey Baker (Lexie Schmidt Baker) of Denver, Colorado, Natalie Shoup of New York City, Hannah Shoup of Boston, Massachusetts and Lindsay Shoup of Boston, Massachusetts; his great grandchildren, Jared Anderson, Julia Anderson, Jesse Anderson of College Station, Texas, Everett Baker and Bennett Baker of Sydney, Australia.; his brothers, Craig Shoup (Cindy) of Overland Park, Kansas and Stefan Shoup (Jane) of Wisconsin; and also Norma Hanson of California. He was also cherished by numerous other cousins, nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brazos Valley Hospice, Brenham Children's Chorus, Brenham Boys and Girls Club, Unity Theatre or the Independence Historical Society.
