He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Mathis and Beulah Marie Skelton Mathis; and his sister Brenda Gobbell. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sue Morris Mathis; his children, Amanda Mathis Buie (Jonathan) and Christopher David Mathis (Maria) of Waynesboro, TN; his grandchildren, Zachary Martin (Sarah), Rayanna Caroline Buie and Weston David Buie; his great grandchildren, Jase Lee Martin, Tyson Kade Martin and Naiomi Grace Martin; his brother Jeff Mathis (Tammy) of Pulaski, TN; and his brothers-in-law, Tony Morris and Joel Gobbell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to the Butterfly Foundation or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
