Maurice Johnson Hatcher Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Maurice Johnson Hatcher (Talbott, Tennessee), born in Marion, Kentucky, who passed away on March 3, 2018 at the age of 85. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Standing 6'6", he was a gentle giant, a man of few words with a dry sense of humor that took you pleasantly by surprise. He faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and Layleader while his wife, Wylene, played the piano and organ at George Street Methodist Church in Jefferson City and later at Panther Springs Methodist Church in Morristown. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dayton Hatcher and Zelma Lou Johnson Hatcher; his wife, Agnes Wylene Quarles Hatcher; and his brothers, William Dayton Hatcher, Jr., Dr. Charles Eugene Hatcher, and Lovell Hatcher. His is survived by his daughter, Lu Ann (Hatcher) Ballew; his step-granddaughter, Jasmine (Ballew) Broyles; his granddaughter, Bay Anna Ballew; and his grandson, Brett Maurice Ballew. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN with Pastor Robert Emmert and Deacon Gordon Lowery officiating. Graveside interment service will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
