He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Carpenter and Effie Carpenter; and his brother Burnett Carpenter. He is survived by: his wife Alma Carpenter; his children, Shona Barrett (Keith) of Rogersville, Kathy Weatherly (Darrell) of Mt. Carmel, JoAnn Viars (Ken) of Sevierville, Michael Carpenter of Hendersonville, NC and Johnny Carpenter of Church Hill; his grandchildren, Beth Barrett, Josh, Christina Hullette, Rebecca Weatherly, Joseph Weatherly, Wesley, Sarah Carpenter, Allison Carpenter, Stacey Grissett (Tyrone), Johnny Carpenter, Ella Carpenter and Jordyn Winegar-Collis; and his siblings, Bea Williams, Aileen Miller (Gordon), Paul Carpenter (Wanda) and J. D. Carpenter (Doris). He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
