He was predeceased by: his parents, James Patterson and Elizabeth Patterson; and his brothers, Dudley, Bud, Oscar, Jimmy and Robert Patterson.

He is survived by: his wife Lillie Patterson; his children, Darrell Thomas Patterson (Rebecca), David Patterson (Bobbie Joyce) and Kim Fenley (Tracy); and his sister Eunice Moore. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
