It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Virginius Thomas Swimme of Portland, Tennessee, born in Portsmouth, Virginia, who passed away on April 13, 2022, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Seneca Xenephon Swimme II and Eloise Cecelia Owens Swimme; and his siblings, Eloise Cecelia Swimme Craven, Seneca Xenephon Swimme III, Margaret Josephine Swimme Costell and James Frances Swimme.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Anne Mahoney Swimme; his sisters, Mary Katherine Swimme Barfield (Richard) and Shirley Ann Swimme Croft; his daughters, Melanie Swimme Hajacos (Tony) and Wendy Swimme Herrington (David); his grandchildren, Taylor Leigh-Anne Hajacos, Hannah Peyton Hajacos and Tyler Freeman Roe; and his great grandchild Kai Mason Thomas.
During the pandemic the last two years, he and Barbara spent time together driving around their property in the golf cart, visiting with family outdoors when the weather permitted, and watching all 635 episodes of Gunsmoke.
