It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Johnny Neel of Nashville, Tennessee, born in Wilmington, Delaware, who passed away on October 6, 2024, at the age of 70, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gail Neel and Tony Amalfitano; his brothers, Robert Neel (Denise), William Neel (Laura), Dave Amalfitano and Danny Amalfitano (Tammy); his wife Christine Thompson; his daughters, Nicole Oakes and Johnna Neel; his grandchildren, Nicolas, Nevaeh and Norah; and his former wives, Sharon Neel and Bestest Buddy Nancy Oakes. He was also cherished by loving nieces and nephews.
Johnny made significant contributions to the band, playing keyboards and harmonica during their Seven Turns Reunion tour. In 2012, in recognition of their contributions to the world of music over the years, the Allman Brothers Band were awarded the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award.
