He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil E Phipps and Alvie Inez Jones Phipps; and his siblings, Danny Phipps, Hubert Phipps, Jessie Phipps and Betty Wade.

He is survived by: his sister Loretta Bohanan (William) of Manchester.
