He was predeceased by: his parents, Mavil Gilland and Dorothy Gilland; his siblings, Larry Gilland, Ernie "Slim" Gilland and Retha Kline; and his nephew Scottie Gilland.

He is survived by: his son Joe; his daughter-in-law Amanda Gilland; his granddaughters, Emma and Madison Gilland of Murfreesboro; his brother Kermit; his sister-in-law Sherry Gilland; his siblings, Vasil "Bud" Gilland, Imogene Parkins, Elvie Cutshaw, Floella Dean, Ezra "Dean" Gilland and Daniel Gilland; and his brother-in-law Gary Kline. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, family members, and special friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
