He was predeceased by: his father Robert Daniel Gano, Sr.; and his grandparents, Daniel, Alta Gano of Richmond, VA, Clarence and Dorothy Walseth of Richmond, VA.

He is survived by: his mother Marilyn Jean Gano; his wife Elizabeth Zawisza Gano; his children, Dr. Daniel Richard Gano (Jessica Gano) of Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Kari Lynn Winfrey (Darren) of Memphis, TN and Michael Robert Gano; his adoptive daughter Andrea Quigley of Lake Worth, FL; his grandchildren, Grey, Rori, Max and Iris; and his brothers, Robert Daniel Gano Jr. (Donella) of Frankford, DE, James Hansell Gano (Mary Ann) of York, PA and John Walls Gano of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
