Ruth Ann (Canaday) Hoffman Obituary
On Friday, February 18, 2022, Ruth Ann Hoffman, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away.
Ruth was born on December 28, 1954, in Springfield, IL to Louis and Pat (Smith) Canaday. She attended Springfield Southeast High School, graduating in 1972. Ruth achieved two Associate degrees from Lincolnland Community College in 1990 and 1991. Ruth also studied Psychology at the University of Illinois in Springfield from 1998-2000. Ruth was a partner with Bernadette Jones as a domestic abuse counselor for several years in Springfield, IL. On December 4, 1976, she married William Joseph Hoffman. They were married for 45 years and raised two children, Zeb of Salisbury, UK, and Angela of Columbia, TN.
Ruth had a passion for music and dancing. Ruth always had music playing in her sunroom while she worked on knitting projects. In her last year Ruth took dance lessons and participated in two dance recitals and a dance competition. Ruth was a fierce competitor but was always glad to help anyone over a rough spot.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Louis, and her mother, Patricia. She is survived by her husband, William, their two children and spouses, Zebulon & Naomi Hoffman and Angela & Sean Flesch, and two granddaughters, Addison Flesch and Savannah Flesch, her sister and spouse, Pamala & Michael Reiser, their close friend, Roger Slightom, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ruth requested her remains be donated for medical education they were donated to the Medical Education and Research Institute’s, Genesis Program, of Memphis, TN. In lieu of a formal service Ruth specified that a memory book be created and shared with family and friends. Donations may be contributed to the William and Ruth Hoffman Scholarship Fund at the Southern Illinois University Foundation.
