She was predeceased by: her husband James C. Carpenter; her parents, Jenaro Clark and Clara Adra Campbell Griffin; and her siblings, Macie Carlock, Opie Bottoms, Mary Perdue, Ophelia Denton, Clara Hughes (Foxie), Annette Kirby, Aliese Hutsell and Junior Griffin (Buddy).
She is survived by: her children, Jim Carpenter (Teresa) of Cleveland and Becky Starnes (Randy) of Chattanooga; her grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Starnes of St. Louis, MO and Jared Starnes (Gretchen) of Wylie, TX; her great grandchild Anna Beth Starnes of St. Louis, MO; and her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ward (Martin) of Chattanooga and Edna Carpenter (Garland) of Decatur, TN. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
