He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Gentry Duke and Mildred Kathleen Beal Duke; his son Gary Bryan Duke; and his brother David Addison Duke. He is survived by: his wife Joyce; his children, Carla Duke Vining (Joe) of South Carthage and Mark Duke (Jackie Watson Gregory) of Gallatin; his siblings, Jacky Duke and Sandra Duke Dickerson of Gordonsville; his grandchildren, Matthew Duke (Kim) of Hartsville, Ellie Vining (Michael McDonald) of Cookeville and Anna Vining of South Carthage; his great grandchildren, Liam, Bo Duke and Nathan Hickman; and his brother-in-law Jimmy Watson (Linda Mofield Watson).

The Duke family requests memorials to either the Emmanuel House of Carthage or the Smith County Humane Society.
