He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. Atkins and Cleo Atkins; his siblings, Edna Wolfe and Ronnie Atkins; and his close friend Joyce Parks.
He is survived by: his son Jonathan Atkins; his sisters, Jeanette Kelley and Pauline Cornett; his stepgranddaughter Blake Long; and his close friend Judy Brantley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
