He was predeceased by: his parents, John Dittes and Emma Dittes (Gommer). He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Mae Bryngelson of Milbank, SD; his children, Johnathan Awn of Santa Fe, NM, Jim Dittes (Bonnie) of Deadwood, SD and Marcia Walton of Chino Valley, AZ; his siblings, Shirley Schultz of Milbank, SD and Don Dittes (Janette) of Appleton, MN; his grandchildren, John Dittes, Sage Awn, Dan Dittes (Sue) and Shelly Juul; and his stepgrandsons, Raymond Wright (Jody) and James Nash (Lisa).
He was a founding member of Whittington Center, was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a member of the Black Hills ATV Club.
