He was predeceased by: his father George MacDonald Smith; his stepfather Andrew Hansen; and his father-in-law Robert Miller. He is survived by: his former wife Rose Gualazzi; his sons, Brandon Douglas (Tessa) of Kansas City, MO and Dustin David (Katie) of Kansas City, MO; his wife Pam Miller-Smith of Dakota Dunes, SD; his mother Rina M. Hansen of Chicago, IL; his brothers, Grant Smith and Neil Hansen; and his grandchildren, Evan, Tatum Smith, Dillon, Brooke and Kyla Smith.
Memorials may be directed to University of South Dakota Foundation, 1110 North Dakota Street, Vermillion, SD 57069, in support of a football scholarship in Doug's name.
