It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Howard Schutt of Brookings, South Dakota, born in Sioux City, Iowa, who passed away on October 17, 2020, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Schutt and Grace Schutt (Peelen); his wives, Joan De Ruyter and Marlys Cunningham Hoffelt; his brother Bradley; his great grandchild Caleb; and his sister Eunice Mae.

He is survived by: his children, Susan Marking (Dan) of Grand Rapids, MN, Mike Schutt of Brookings, SD, Leslie Koch (Joel) of White, SD and Leah Knofczynski (John) of Madison, SD; his stepchildren, Jeff Hoffelt (Elaine) of Cary, NC, Lori Schultz (Rick) of Brookings, SD, Tonya Gaalswyk (Colin) of Brookings, SD and Jason Hoffelt (Janell) of Brookings, SD; and his siblings, Gene Schutt (Anna Mae) of Alton, IA and Sandy VandeBrake (Norlyn) of Okoboji, IA.. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Although floral arrangements are appreciated, Howard's family prefers that memorial donations may be directed to the Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.

“My brother-in-law Howard was always a bright light in our family's life. He had such a strong personality that made for many a Howie roast. He enjoyed them as much as we did! I hope we'll have another at our family reunion in 2021. Howard was the one who picked out our cottage for us, and having the cottage kept the whole family extra close since 1984. Howard 's contributions as well as his thoughtful and fun personality will always be remembered and never forgotten. Love you, Howie.”
