He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ivey and Louise Fisher Ivey; his children, Patricia Lee Benfield and James David Ivey; and his brother Junior Ivey.
He is survived by: his significant other Brenda Crisp; his children, Richard Ivey, Jr. and Carol Ann Genaway; and his siblings, Edmond Ivey, Melvin Ivey, Peggy Drabenstat, Margaret Pendleton and Faye Thompson. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
