He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Marion Herlong and Carrie Livingston Herlong; his brothers, Frank Herlong and James C. Herlong; his close friend Sammy Wingard; and his stepdaughters, Barbara Jean Youngblood and Billie Jo Knight.
He is survived by: his children, Lumber Mill, Valerie Carter (David), David L. Herlong (Cindy), Jim Herlong and Dennis L. Herlong, II (Sherry); his brother Harold L. Herlong; and his stepson William Youngblood. He is also survived by six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
