John Thompson Obituary
Piedmont - John "Carroll Brown" Thompson, 81, husband of Loretta "Katie" Furr Thompson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26 at his home.
Born on June 22, 1942, in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Vivian Ilene Brown Bishop. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and served in the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator. He received Expert Rifleman and Motor Vehicle Driving Badge with "W" Bar. After being honorably discharged, he was employed with VF Trucking (Wrangler) where he spent too many hours to count traveling all over the country. He was a Perpetual Life member of the Grove Station Masonic Lodge #166 A.F.M. and a Shriner.
In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by daughters, Beverly Beckman (Paul), Susan Matkin (Keith), and Janiece McMillan; sons, Brad Singleton (Tina), and Bruce Singleton (Shelly); sister, Eileen Lollis (Alvin); grandchildren, Tammy Wright (Cedric), Emily Jeffries (Von), Katie Hart (Cagney), Austin "Boog" Singleton, Kelsey Clark (Allen), Joshua Singleton (Merceades) Reesie Singleton (Austin), Earon Gunter (Paige) and Alex Singleton; great-grandchildren, Kenley Jeffries, Avery Hart, Lila Clark, Charlotte Clark, Alaiah Clark, Lilly Singleton, and Colton Singleton.
Also, very special to him was his morning Mill Town Café and Tuesday night Saluda River Grill friends, and lastly his side kick, Prissy.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marleen Jones and grandson, Tyler Young.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, October 2, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. At Carroll's request, there will be no other services.
