He was predeceased by: his parent Edward Davis Gilmer; his brother Timothy Wyatt Gilmer; and his nephew Stuart Gordon Gilmer, Jr.. He is survived by: his parent Eva Dean Elizabeth Drake; his daughters, Elizabeth Gilmer "Buffy" Farnsworth of Charlotte and Heather Gilmer Ives (Hunter) of Sumter; his grandchildren, Drake Middleton Ives, Davis Jennings Farnsworth and Ashley Hunter Ives, Jr.; his brothers, Stuart Gordon Gilmer (Anne) of Pawleys Island and Richard Bellotte Gilmer (Karen) of Murrells Inlet, SC; and his nephews, Clark Gilmer Florian, James Davis Gilmer and Edward Davis Gilmer II.
