He was predeceased by: his parents, Revered Edward Eddie Sumpter and Evelyn Sumpter (Gilyard); his son Michael Antwon Sumpter; his aunts and uncles, Catherine Fogle, Alberta Jones, Rosa M. Gilyard, Barbara Gilyard, Samuel Gilyard, Willie Fairnot, Sr. and Robert Fogle; and his cousin Willie Fairnot, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Ricky Sumpter (LaTonya) of Newport News, Wilhelmina Kelly of Orangeburg, SC and Gabriel Peeples (Lyesha Felder) of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Joelle, Jadayah, Unikqua and Trevon; and his siblings, Dianne Sumpter of Orangeburg, SC, Herman Sumpter of Orangeburg, SC, Clarence Sumpter (Celeste), Jerry Sumpter (Sonya) and Dwayne Sumpter (Stephanie) of Mauldin, SC. He is also survived by uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
