She was predeceased by: her son Philip Bennett; and her siblings, Betty Jean Giles, Wilma Neal, Melvin E., John S. Jr. and Michael Lum.
She is survived by: her spouses, Mauldin and Virgil Bennett Simpson; her daughters, Janet Gilchrist (Martin) of Orangeburg, SC and Emily Helmick of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren, Martin Gilchrist III (Katie) and Ashley Helmick; and her great grandchildren, Mary Grace, Bennett Gilchrist and George Gilchrist.
