He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Ernest Carnes and Ella Edith Walters Carnes; his son Jack Ferral Carnes, Jr.; his siblings, Bill Carnes, Wynona Cox, Lou Bundy, Mary Bundy, Doris Carnes and Ernestine Carnes; and his son-in-law Tim Sanders.
He is survived by: his wife Phebe Carnes; his daughters, Becky Carnes Sanders and Anne Carnes Briggs (Spencer); his grandchildren, Kevin Summers (Brittany), Wess Briggs (Chloe Blackmon), Jesse Briggs and Trace Briggs; and his great grandchildren, Owen Summers and Aubrey Summers. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
