He was predeceased by: his parents, Leona Stickles Bortel and Robert C. Bortel; and his brother Jack Bortel. He is survived by: his wife Maureen Bortel; his daughters, Kathy Coskrey (Ernie) of Lexington, SC, Laurie Ladd (Larry) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Pam Bembry (Kip) of Martinez, GA.; his grandchildren, Abigail, Christopher, Rosemary Coskrey, Emma, Jack Ladd, Maggie, Molly and Beau Bembry; his nephews, Mark and Todd Bortel; his niece Jackie Bortel Maffia; his brother-in-law Mike Mason (Suzanne); his niece Julie; his nephew David; his sister-in-law Laura Mason; his nieces and nephews, Tony and Krissy; his friends, Maurice Wright and Shawn Peeples; and his pet Maggie.
