He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Shoemake and Susanna Kissiah Shoemake; his former wife Virginia Bryant Shoemake; and his son-in-law John Clark. He is survived by: his children, Myrick O'Neal (Pam) of Phoenix, AZ, Vivian Uker (Denny) of Britt, IA, Elaine Hungerpiller (Colin) of Hartsville, SC, Kay Clark of McBee, SC, Mary Drew (Dennis) of McBee, SC, Letrail Oakley (Robert) of McBee, SC and Danna Isgett (David) of Hartsville, SC. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
