He was predeceased by: his father Raymond M. Gilbert; his daughter Carmen Alicia Gilbert; his sister Annie Bradshaw; and his son-in-law Jay Kinard. He is survived by: his children, April Kinard, James A. Gilbert, Jr. and Joel Gilbert (Joni); his close friend Daphine Weber; his grandchildren, Alicia Gilbert (Bryce), Andrew Kinard, Justin Kinard, Jordan Kinard, Morgan Beasley (Paul), Matthew Gilbert (Summer) and McKinley Gilbert (Madison); and his great grandchildren, Brantley Gilbert, Sadie Gilbert, Jaxson Blackmon and Matthias Beasley.
