He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Clarkson Ray, Sr.. He is survived by: his mother Betty Lou Ethridge Ray; his daughter Amber Overholt (Jason) of Wilmington, NC; his sister Susan Ray Joseph of Charleston; and his close friend Linda E. Tisdale of Ladson. He is also survived by several nephews, and a great niece.
