He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Gene and Regula Täuber Merritt. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen "Kathy" Knight; his children, Amber Eckley (Wes), Megan Jones (DJ) and Mark Merritt (Kristiaän); his grandchildren, Trey Jones, Mackenzie Jones, Jason Jones and Linden Eckley; and his siblings, Walter Merritt and Christine Merritt Poe (Tommy).
