He was predeceased by: his parents, John Blackwell and Molly Carroll Blackwell; his children, Tommy Blackwell Sr. and Barbara Jackson; and his siblings, Violin Oliver, Rosa Mae Peterson, Annie Mae Benton, William Blackwell, Alfred Blackwell, Victor Blackwell and John Blackwell.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Whiten Blackwell; his children, Danny Blackwell of Blacksburg, Linda Peterson and Judy White (Randy); and his sister Louise Oliver of Kings Mountain. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
