He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Dudley Steele and Emma Almetta Hinson Steele; and his siblings, Charles Steele, Harold Steele, Darwin Steele and Joyce Pierce.

He is survived by: his daughter Linda Baker (Ralph) of Bishopville; his grandchildren, Kerri Baker (Roddy) of Camden and Dr. Dustin Baker of St. Louis; his great grandchildren, Noah and Matthew Baker of Camden; and his sisters, Elizabeth Glenn and Brenda Richardson (Bob) of Lancaster. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Matthew United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in c/o Ralph Baker, 230 Roundup Drive, Bishopville, SC 29010.

“I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Steele. Mr. Steele has been my neighbor for nine years now. When I first moved in and was having trouble finding a lawn care service, he would come over and cut my grass, without even being asked, if he saw it getting too tall. He would sometimes bring me candy bars. He was a very sweet, generous, and thoughtful man. I will always remember him out riding his lawnmower, or walking his cat on a leash ("my baby", he said). God rest his soul.”
