He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam and Beulah; his stepmother Cleo Sykes; and his siblings, Sammie, George, Willie James, Robert, Roy and Edna Sawyer.
He is survived by: his son Danny Sykes; his granddaughter Allycia Sykes; his great grandchildren, Janiya-Lee Smith and Carlton Johnson; and his siblings, Fannie Mackins (Melvoy) of Decatur and Johnnie Sykes (Staphine) of Racine. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his church family and friends.
