He was predeceased by: his wife Regina Merrill (Barszcz); his parents, Ellard Merrill and Mildred Merrill (Harris); and his sibling E. Richard Merrill. He is survived by: his daughters, Rebecca L. Burke (Peter) of Barrington and Janet M. Farrar (Dwight) of Scituate; his grandchildren, Jeffrey T. Farrar and Megan L. Zebrak; his great grandchildren, Gwenneth and Reese Zebrak; and his siblings, Barbara Chapman and Avis Carey.
