Donald Seybold Obituary

Donald Eugene Seybold, 59. Loving husband, father to many, friend to more, relentless warrior and faithful servant, entered the gates of heaven on September 6th, 2021, surrounded by the ones he loved most.

Don was the son of USMC Master Sergeant Arthur Martin "Tom" Seybold and Dorothy J. Seybold. Three siblings, Thomas (Debbie) Seybold, Teresa (Barrett) Devlin, and Nettie (Ron) Emeigh. Don never referred to his in-laws as "in-laws", they were his family; Harry & Linda Wilcox, Michele & Randy Klein, and Billy Wilcox.

Don was very blessed by the family God had chosen for him; his best friend and wife for 26 years MaryBeth (Wilcox), his children "Dani" Danielle (Dave) Robertson, "Mattie" Matthew & "Bird" Nichole Landis, "Drubbie" Andrea (Nate) King, Jacob Nicholson, Drew Girard, Zachary & "Lina Kabina" Angelina Seybold. He was Pappy to Charlie, Isaac, Liam, Mikaylynn & Michael. Many nieces, nephews and cousins were loved dearly by Don. Don was not only Dad to the above, but he was also father figure and friend to many of our extended family; Mistie Parrish, Tanner & Abbey Bloom, Nate Sutton, Taylor Crites, Karen Custer, Jasmine Blough, Amy Igou, Kristi Kuhn, Simone Stephens, Jess Woodhead, Bob Hellman, Jonathan Boyer, Paula Shaffer and Harold Maust. Don graduated from Somerset Area High School in 1980, went on to LPN school, worked at Somerset State Hospital, and then SCI Laurel Highlands where he retired. He was currently working as an LPN through Continuum Pediatrics. He was a member of First Christian Church in Somerset. Don was a pretty simple man. He loved spending time with his wife (unless she had plans for his garage), loved his children, loved singing, playing the piano, reading, watching The Weather Channel, long naps and his puppies. If Don greeted you, it was with a genuine hand shake or an amazing bear hug. If you were in Don's inner circle, he would fiercely protect you and always have your back in ANY situation. Don's quick sense of humor could put a smile on your face in the most serious situation, and if that didn't work, a straw, napkin and saliva to make a "spit wad" was usually the weapon of choice! Don was diagnosed in August 2019 with Lymphoma. He was very eager to fight this beast as soon as he could. While awaiting his biopsy results he asked to please have a bracelet engraved with "Your will Lord, not mine." This truly was his motto throughout the most difficult time of his life. My sister said it best, "If Don's faith could have cured him, he would have been healed long ago." During Don's long battle, he will be remembered as the most selfless, patient, polite, kind and appreciative man. His grace with all that he endured was remarkable and his faith in God was truly inspirational. Through Don's cancer battle we encountered many blessings. I was able to be with Don the entire journey thanks to our nurses going above and beyond to help our family. UPMC Somerset SDS and Conemaugh Oncology with Dr. Higbee, Mindy, and staff. When you started caring for Don, you gave our family the gift of more time, by allowing Don to get treatments in our home town. Your kindness has truly touched our hearts. UPMC Shady Side hospital employees Kaitlyn Hill, Gwen Matrone, Jamie Kriner, Alex Bittner, Tony Artis, Rose Folino and Dr. Kathleen Dorritie will FOREVER have a place in my heart as the most gentle souls with a gift of comfort, friendship and faith for Don & I. Don ALWAYS looked forward to seeing you during his hospital stays. All who loved Don are invited to honor him at a Celebration of Life for the man he was. Pastor Mike Dunlap will be officiating at 2 pm Sunday September 26, 2021 at "The Puddle" (a casual, Covid friendly, outdoor venue) 1337 Husband Rd. Somerset. Don knew he was a very loved man. He has taught us many things and he will forever be known for the amount of LOVE for his wife, family, friends, and all of God's animals. His crazy sense of humor. His courageous will to fight & live, but most of all his faith in God. If Don could leave us all with words to live by, it would be through Christ all things are possible, and always, always "HIS will, not ours." Arrangements under the direction of the ROBERT H. HALVERSON FUNERAL HOME.
