He was predeceased by: his wife Mary K. Kern (Lilly); his parents, Ervin Kern and Alva Kern (Rohlfing); his son Richard E. Kern, Jr.; and his sister Paulette Samuels.
He is survived by: his sons, Michael E. Kern (Liz) of Kunkletown, James R. Kern (Lisa) of Slatington, Steven E. Kern (Laura) of Emerald and Scott D. Kern (Jess) of Slatedale; and his daughter-in-law Lisa Kern of Slatington. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
