He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Smart, Sr. and Regina Smart (Kelly); and his grandson Jake Smart. He is survived by: his wife Agnes Smart (Ridgway); his children, John R. Smart (Sharon) of Philadelphia and Candise Smart (Vince D'Andrea) of Ambler; his grandchildren, Carly, Devon, Becca and Colin; and his sisters, Judith DeGideo (Thomas) of Lansdale, Patricia Rotelli and Susan Scott (Keith) of North Wales. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
