He was predeceased by: his parents, John McElvaney and Anna McElvaney (Seary); and his brothers, John, Richard, Thomas, James and Francis McElvaney.
He is survived by: his sons, Joseph V. McElvaney Jr. (Sue) of Phoenix, AZ, David McElvaney of St. Clair and Sean McElvaney of Phoenix, AZ; and his siblings, Robert McElvaney, Sarah Slepecky of Coaldale and Elizabeth Chinchar of Coaldale. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
