He was predeceased by: his parents, David Mahaffey and Maxine McHenry Mahaffey; his former wife Sara N. Franklin; his stepbrother Howard Smith; and his grandson Brock Davenport.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann; his pet GiGi; his children, Angela Slagle (Brian) of Wilmington, NC, Elizabeth "Sissy" Daniels (Donnie) of Wilmington, NC, Susie Mattis (Richard) of Calera, AL, Connie Varischetti of Vero Beach, FL, Regina Petruzzi Neumann (Terry) of Round Hill, VA, Charles Bates (Judy) of Clanton, AL and Anthony L. Petruzzi of Brockway; his brother David "Sonny" Mahaffey of Gastonia, NC; his grandchildren, Alexa Leigh Warner, Caroline Warner, Foster Slagle, Carter Daniels, Colton Daniels, Tara Davenport, Amanda Watkins (Wesley), Tiffany Ostertag (Kevin), Frank Varischetti (Melissa), Saranne Hanes (Paul), Maia Neuman and Dominic Neuman; and his great grandchildren, Hudson Hanes, Addison Ostertag, Charlie Ostertag, Callie Watkins, Jonah Brock Davenport, Harrison Hanes and Brinley Davenport.
Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic a private funeral service will be held with Pastor Dave Nagele officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of the donors choice.
