He was predeceased by: his parents, Eduardo Martinez and Maria Martinez; and his sisters, Marie Martinez, Carmen Hamlin and Matea Martinez.

He is survived by: his wife Maria Naida Martinez (Rodriguez); his children, Jose Martinez Jr. (Susan), Maricela Benavidez (Ovideo), Sofia Gonzales (Dennis) and Teresa Sundstrom (Charles); and his siblings, San Juanita Ramirez, Sabino, Isabel, Antonia and Tommie. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
