He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Eleanor; and his sister Eleanor Huber. He is survived by: his wife Theresa; his siblings, James Newell and Mary Mullin; and his children, John J. Newell III, Daniel P. Newell (Teresa), Theresa M. Klitchko (Frank), Thomas M. Newell (Christine), Michael P. Newell and Philip J. Newell (Maria). He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren.
