He is survived by: his wife Virginia McCarthy; his children, Michael H. Carter, Jr., Tayhise Nicole Carter, Tracy Leigh Carter and Jay C. Carter; and his siblings, Robert L. Carter, Jr., Barbara Jarvis and Rose Johnson. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
