He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles M. Sr. French and Mary Sophia Cooper French; his grandson David William French; and his sister Mary E.. He is survived by: his children, Michael P. French (Patti), Wanda M. Gallagher, Victoria L. Mickley, Charles L. French, Lisa C. Collins (David), Joseph A. (Andrea) and Christina L. French (Kenneth Straley); and his sisters, Charlette R. Engle of Quincy and Margaret A. Hayes (Vernon) of Missouri. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3, great-great-grandchildren and 1 more great-great-grandchild.
