He was predeceased by: his parent Thomas Payne. He is survived by: his parent Violet Brooks Payne; his spouses, England and Louise E. Stouffer Payne; his children, Linwood E. Payne (Karen) of Chambersburg, Stuart W. Payne and Cynthia L. Campbell; his grandchildren, Melinda (Ken), Ryan (Sara), Meredith, Shauna (Seth), Melody, Miranda, Josh, Hannah, Samantha, John, Jr. and Eric; and his great grandchildren, Aaron and Abi. He is also survived by grandchild; and several nieces and nephews, in the U. S. and the U. K. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings.
