He was predeceased by: his former wife Sharon L. Wertz (Machemer); his parents, Floyd Wertz and Margaret Moyer (Hepner); and his brothers, Gene Wertz, Jack Wertz and Joseph Wertz.

He is survived by: his wife Sylvia L. Snyder (Spatz); his children, Jamie S. (Russ Hopkins) of Newport News, VA and Scott J. Wertz (Sherry) of Carrollton, VA; his stepchildren, Steven T. Snyder (Lauren) of Nashville, TN and Laurie A. Snyder; his close friends, Linda Millman of Lewes, DE and Eric L. Snyder (Deborah); and his grandchildren, Kelsey, Jordan, Hunter (Anna), Noah, Makayla and Rachel. He is also survived by five step-grandchildren: two great-granddaughters, with a great-grandson on the way; and one step-great-granddaughter.
