He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Janice Tompkins (Kotula); his sons, James Jr. (Dina) and Jeffrey (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Michael, Kelly, Shane, Parker, Skylar and Chase; and his great grandchild Eva.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society OR to Animal Friends.
