He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Hertlein and Florence Spence Hertlein; his wife Eileen Barcellos Hertlein; and his sisters, Zelia Reed and Suellen Hertlein.
He is survived by: his daughters, Linda Lopez (Dave) of Windsor, CA, Tina Hertlein and Tracy Swartz; and his sister Joanna Reynolds of Grass Valley, CA.. He is also survived by six grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
