He was predeceased by: his parent Samuel Akin. He is survived by: his spouse Teresa Van Akin; his parent Virginia Van Akin; his son David A. Van Akin (Amy); his grandchildren, Catherine, Courtney and Camden; his sibling Bonnie J. Purdy; and his siblings-in-law, Deborah Callaghan and Andrew Rutherford (Maria). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
