He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Schmitt and Helen Wickenheiser Schmitt; and his brother Joseph Schmitt. He is survived by: his wife Doris Resch Schmitt of Columbia; his children, Helene (Harold "Howie" Nace) of Maytown, Dr. Albert J. Schmitt, Jr. (Fancia Tang-Schmitt) of Avondale, PA, John (Nina Schmitt) of Columbia, Julia (Adam Warfel) of Columbia, Denise (Harry Lehman) of Columbia and Eric (Stephanie Schmitt) of Ephrata; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Theresa, Annabelle, Charlotte, Christine, Paige, Ethan, Andrew, Rachel, Matthew, Stefani, Jeffrey, Zachary and David; and his brother Robert Schmitt of Columbia. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.
